A diploma for world citizens

The established International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is the final program our students complete before they graduate. We are extremely proud to have had a pass rate of 100% for the last 3 years.

IBDP is open to students who have finished IST’s IGCSE’s with good results, or who have met similar requirements. Examples of these requirements are finishing the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme at another international school, or meeting the entrance requirements for 5 VWO in the Dutch educational system. The Diploma Programme forms the last two years of secondary education, and the IB diploma gives access to universities worldwide.

The philosophy of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme closely aligns with IST’s ideas about great education. It aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. IB’s programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme encourages inquiry based learning, teaching students to think one step ahead. The span of subjects the IB has to offer is broad, consisting of over 100 subjects. The core of IST’s curriculum is made up of the following building blocks:

  • Languages A: English and Mother tongue (for students who want to focus on literature in their own language, supported by school, but largely self-study)
  • Language B: English, Dutch, Spanish and Spanish ab initio (for beginners)
  • Social Sciences: Geography and Economics
  • Experimental Sciences: Biology, Physics, Chemistry
  • Mathematics: Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, Mathematics Applications and Interpretation
  • Arts: Visual Arts

Students will be required to take six subjects from at least five groups (Arts can be replaced by another group): three subjects at a standard level and three subjects at a high level. In addition, there are three core subjects which are compulsory, namely:

  • Theory of Knowledge
  • Extended essay
  • CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service)
